In a quiet St. Paul neighborhood, you will find a gluten-free haven known as Burning Brothers Brewing.
Though the building is simple, the beer inside was impressive. That’s not to say it was impressive “for a gluten-free beer,” but simply impressive on its own. I drank a Roasted Coffee Strong Ale, which is one of the few flavors that will make me love a dark beer.
If it doesn’t amaze you that the founders are committed to brewing beer with 100% gluten-free ingredients, then you should know their past profession was eating fire. Seriously.
My advice on this Saturday afternoon came from a drinking buddy. Well, from her grandparents. According to her, the couple was simply the nicest people on the face of the Earth–a fact I’m sure nobody would argue against given their advice.
From her grandpa: Be kind, be kind, be kind.
From her grandma: What goes around comes around.
I can’t take one of these quotes independently, for they are perfectly connected. Believing in bad karma allows us to create space to be kind to people who do wrong. Inversely, believing in good karma motivates us to always be kind.
Upon receiving these words of wisdom, I commented how much they go hand-in-hand, to which my friend responded, “Just like my grandparents.”
If that’s not the cutest damn thing you’ve heard over a beer, I don’t know what is.
